Lickin' Lips

We've seen it on the luscious lips of Lana Del Rey..and lets be honest, who can NOT stop and stare at her beauty?

So, it became of instinctive aptitude to adopt a part of her maven mystery...

LIP LINER.

See, the problem began when noticing that I naturally have very pale and nude lips. Yes, thats great when youre Penelope Cruz and have iconic olive undertones. However, for someone who is as fair skinned as her lips, it can some times become problematic.

Using any sort of color on my lips can, at times, can be too much depending on my wardrobe and scenario. I started using lip liner as color because it kept my lips looking plump--by being able to sculpt the outter lips (a la Lana) but at the same time allowed the matte coloring to keep them looking basic and natural. These sticks are cheaper than lipstick and alleviates me from being washed out in pictures.

In this picture I used Stilla Aspiring and applied it as liner as well as color all over my lips. I also used it in the shoot with AsheliPhotography which you can find here.

Give it a try!

the bun is in the eye of the beholder.

being that we are being hit by tropical storm debby here in the "sunshine state", we need an easy go-to updo that won't fuss when it gets pelted by storm force winds and rain.  the solution? our favorite, a braid - but a bit better!

follow these easy steps to have a beautiful, braided bun in no time. this look is perfect for a sophisticated corporate workday, or a night out on the town.

here's the look, from my night on the town (a braided bun paired with grunge):
photo [kevin kelii / kk photography ]
here's what you need to get it:

here's how you do it:

1. while hair is damp, spray tonic and thickening hair spray on roots, lightly.
2. allow to dry, or blow dry.
3. put hair in a high ponytail.(or low...you can also do this style at the base of the neck!)
4. separate into two sections.
5. braid each section tightly, and secure each end with a clear pony.
6. take one of the braids (#1) and wrap it around the remaining braid (#2), until braid #1 is fully wrapped around braid #2. pin in place.
7. Now, wrap braid #2 in a circle around the bun you just created, making it thicker.
8. pin in place and voila!

as you can see, I have many layers, leading to lots of stray hairs. to get a more refined and polished look a la the first photo, use bumble&bumble tonic and thickening hair spray to hold those babies down - and rain will only help your fabulous look!

Dirty Fan Friday

Happy Friday, friends & family of DHH!

This week we are doing a special edition of DFF. Today, we announce our Copy Cat Connection: Blog Buddies.

Nothing makes our hippie hues happier than when friends and fans ectype our hair styles, fashion and makeup! Thus, it would be fatuous for us to not mention one of our blog inspirations and pals, MS.CMC from fromctoc who encouraged us daily to defy the rules of Darwinian competition and to leverage ourselves onto a better spot on the social totem poll! Thus, naturally we began sharing ideas (styles, trends, advice and makeup) and it was decided to create this site.

fromctoc is a day to day reflection of a singer/songwriter/actress living in LA who, like many of us, finds therapy in forms of shopping, reading, believing, and fashion. I encourage you all to check out this fun loving blog--Especially those who are searching for balance, beauty and creativity in a world painted grey. This fighter will be sure to give you invaluable advice.

So, here is a recent Dirty Fan and Friend rockin' some Boho beauty. To learn this easy style click here.

Who will be next??

Welp, I kept receiving requests for how I did my eye shadow in my epic 'big wavy hair' tutorial. Its quite awkward and slightly rebarbative but I thought I may as well bask in my embarrassment and share in on our site.

For some quick day or night shadow, check out this sweet vid.

Boho Beauty

Its been sometime since weve done a hair post...I apologize in advance for leaving you all stranded (ha, pun intended. Funny, I know)

So, finally, here is a simple five stepper. We couldnt help but be inspired by the marvel that is Mary Kate Olsen.

Directciones for the Die Hard Dirty...Hippies..

1. part your hair down the center
2. pull your hair up to pig tail status- yes, that high.
3. braid your pony.
4. pull the braid up and over to the other side of your head.
5. pin in place.
6. do the same on both sides.
7. We highly recommend you pin the two braids together in the middle of you head to keep the braids from moving throughout the day.

B's in Beer

Hello there DHH friendship..
How would you like to relive your old college daze days?

Thats right, hippies, try out some of this autonomous thinking/thought.

Welcome...BEER SOAKED HAIR.

It may seem a like a disorienting act of depravity. However, Beer can help remedy SPLIT ENDS. Beer contains Vitamin B which helps to seal the hair and keep moisture locked in.

Here's how to do it:
1. Work the beer throughout your hair and let it sit for 5 minutes (we recommend delicates such as Magic Hat #9, Delirium, and Chimay..for taste testing, of course).
2. Rinse out the delicious smelling beer...
3. DAS IT!

This will help with the prevention and upkeep of split ends.
