Things we like: Socks N Booties

As the non erudite season sedulously turns to winter, our ostensible clairvoyance dusts off those dirty boots from last year and gears up for child's play.

Boots are always the prized staple 'round the holidays-and why wouldn't they be? It doesn't always seem fitting to strut your Uncle's house in a 6inch pair of pumps (although, we are sure they would be beautiful). The non callous and comfort these bad boys bring to style will brighten up any hellacious holiday ennui.

Grab some tights, boots and add a pair of socks!

How we wore it:
I wore my knee highs below my knee, mainly because I am shorter (5ft) with a more stout and muscular body. Having the socks above my knees would have made my legs look even shorter than they are. Leaving socks just below my knee make my calves and legs appear longer. Every inch helps!

Wearing tights slim down ALL legs. So, throwing socks on below the knee won't make your legs look bulkier. Its a fun, easy and winter-esque look.

Asher has been fortunate enough to be given long and slender legs. Pulling the socks up above the knee make her legs appear even longer and slimmer (not fair). If you have long legs as well, definitely take advantage of this look, and pull those socks up above your knee!

Bangs as Blandishments!

Bangs.

Yes- we are both advocates of these mangy little guys. However, our just trust in the shag does not go unwarranted. Bangs can easily polish any ruff stone and always leaves room for diversity and modifications to your look.

For the one who is always itching a makeover (myself included)- a quick trim above the eyes, can make you feel brand new.

Contemplating bangs? Check out our bang styles for ideas..

Round Face:

ROUND FACE SYNDROME-While I have virtually sported every hair color and style- I find Bangs will always comfort my brows. Bangs are great for lengthening round faces and making them appear to be thinner. I do LOVE short across bangs-however, time and time again has proved that longer side swept bangs work best to thin out this shaped face. PS- This is me smiling. So jovial.

Heart Shape or long faces: Fear not! Bangs are the cutest accessory on these fab faces. Short Shabby bangs are adorable but long swept side bangs work wonders as well.

Lazy Bangs
Trying to grow out your bangs?  Or just don't feel like styling day three of those little pests? Try out some of these easy dos to hide your bangs.

1. Grab your bangs.
2. Twist them
3.Grab a new section of hair on the side (pull from your ear as if you are doing your hair half up-half down)
3. Twist again with the new section of hair.
4. Keep grabbing a new section of hair and twisting until you each the middle of your head.
5. Bobby Pin in place.

This is another look you can do using the Twist method from above and the two-strand braid you learned here 5 Minute Braids . We did the braid above and below a little looser than we normally would to give her hair a romantic and effortless edge.

Hide your Bangs in a Waterfall....Braid.

1. Clip your bangs to the side with a bobby pin.
2. Grab a section of hair.
3. Split that section into two strands.
4. Cross them over
5. Grab a New piece of hair from the top
6. slide that strand into the middle of your two crossed over pieces.
7. Cross the two pieces once more.
8. Add a New strand in, cross again, repeat until your braid is as long as you want.
9. Add a Pretty bow for a finished (bang-less) look.

Don't have bangs? Want them momentarily?

Use a headband and a deep side part to test your likes of the newly short hairs.

And look! You already learned this do below, Here!

An Eye for an Eye

Oh my eyes!

What was once a far fetched (and almost a meretricious ideology) has swept the peninsular tips of Florida once again! Fall has arrived!

Bust out your golds, browns and blues! Its time for smokey eyes and cat liner!

Learn how to doll up your luscious lashes here!

Be a Catch
A survivor of the flood, this non-revolutionizing liner has been making appearances on Lauren Conrad and Dita Von Teese. Cat liner is known for curating any simple suit and is always pleasing, precious and pure. In a hurry? Draw on some simple liner and smack on some chap stick, this look perfects the imperfect.

For those of you who dismiss any sort talent towards eye liner, you can try out shadow in cat-form.

1. Start off my shadowing in the base of your eye as if you were doing eye liner.
2. Starting at the outer corner of your eye, draw a line going up until you hit the crease of your eye.
3. At the top of your newly drawn line, connect the line to your actual crease (as if you were drawing a half triangle) and shade in.

Gimme Yo' Baby Blues
Using color on your eyes has been thought of as a daunting task for many. But, don't you fret my little hippies, using colors have become simple, romantic and riveting. Try out some blues, greens, and purples for fall and winter. The trick is mixing loose shadows with palette colors. Pick two correlating shades o' color-a darker and a lighter color of the same gene pool.

1. I first primed my eyes- this is vital considering you will be using loose powder.
2. I took my lightest shade of blue and shaded in the inner corner of my eye.
3. I took the second darkest blue and shaded in the middle of my eye.
4. I then took my loose powder (you could use a darker color or just two colors) and finished the outer corner of my eye.
4. Bring the color underneath your eye for a smokey blue effect!

A Wondrous Winter land in White
You've seen models strutting the runway looking snow-globe esque. Tired? Have circles under you eyes? Wipe them away with white! Using white can liven up skin and brighten up eyes. It's the easiest trick in the book.

1. Start by adding a simple nude colored base coat all over your eye lid.
2. Take white and shade in the inner corner of your eye.
3. Take a brown or gold (our fav) and shade in the middle of your lid to the outer corner.
4. Take the white and shade the inner bottom lid of your eye to make your eyes POP.

Gold Digger
Classic black smokey eyes will never be eradicated. Although, we do occasionally love a haughty dark eye, we find browns to much more flattering. Our secret weapon? GOLD!  Golds, will bring out the sparkle in every eye color (trust me). Use a little dab of gold and let your eyes do the talkin'!

Get your brown smokey eye on!

1. Start by adding a gold base color on you bottom half of your lid.
2. Get a darker brown (metallic or matte) and shade in just the crease of your eye.
3. Add liner
4. Once you have liner your eyes, take a shadow brush and smudge in the liner to get a smokey look.
4. Follow with brown or gold underneath your eyes to create a smokey look.

Primary Palette
By the standards notation, each eye color is destined to specific colors. Thus, the anti aberrant avers that brown eyes get purple, blue eyes use browns, and green eyes marry pinks and peaches. While an ounce of me believes this to be true,we think it is based off of preference, style and sass ( I would never wear pink on my eyes).

Deviate from the norm, check our some of the color palette's we put together below.

Peace, Paint & Panegyrics

RIP french acrylics. The New age has brought forth a dire need to take pop art to the cuticles. We wont go as far as Andy Warhol would, but we'd have to agree that this task is audaciously fun and cheap.

Level the peace in your bank account and say adios to the nail salon. Here are some DIY nail recipes that'll be sure to bring the out the compliments.

Newspapers on my nails? Informed & Innovative

1. paint the nail and let it dry.
2. hold the painted nail in rubbing alcohol for about 30 seconds.
3. immediately place the newspaper over the nail for about a minute and a half. (i also held a second pad with alcohol over it to ensure transfer).
4.cover with a topcoat!

Hues o' colors-Paint me a rainbow!
Way before time, or even last fall, blacks and blood-drawn reds used to rage the nail market. Whelp, move over black market, this year we are welcoming all races of colors. Alas, we have fallen in love with the introduction of Mint!
1. paint the nail and let it dry.
2. take the glitter nail polish and dab a few sparkles on the end of the nail.
3. paint a topcoat!

Paint me a mix o match!
Loving the duo dashes of color? Nail art is all about mix matching of colors and prints. Just grab a makeup sponge and a few colors of polish!
1. paint a base color and let it dry.
2. take a sponge and dip it in the second color.
3. dab it on the tip of your nail - thicker at the very tip, and then sponge and blend down the nail as desired!

Aztec Loving
Aztec prints are everywhere. You've seen them dance their patters upon celebratory skirts and blouses this past summer and they certainly haven't disappeared in the winter wind. While we admit we cannot paint the beautiful colored Aztec landscapes on our nails, there are a few ways to get this Aztec feel on your nails that are doable without hiring a nail tech (just a nail pen)!
1.paint a base color - i used limo-scene by essie. marshmallow is another good white by essie! do NOT paint a top coat after this step - the nail pens adhere much better to the actual polish.
2.horrible example of my first attempt at this! (proof that practice makes perfect)
3.use a nail pen to draw a zig zag pattern on your nail.
4. i found it easiest to paint dots where i wanted the high and low points to be, and then connect those.
5.let it dry completely - be careful with this, because the nail pens are really easy to smear if you are hasty with the top coat.
6. paint a top coat and admire your work!

Impressive ideology:
get creative - nail art is just another form of fashion expressionism.  use your favorite colors and designs for inspiration!

i also think it's important to point out that you may not get it perfect on that first try - proof being that the first time i tried out the zig zag stripes, it was terrible! i even included the picture in the collage above as proof.  just keep trying, and you will get better and better!

topcoat:
we are in double LOVE with this topcoat.  Not only does it quickly dry your nails, but it helps keep nails chip free for a period of at least a week or more - pretty good for a DIY manicure (especially considering im OCD about doing dishes).

nail care:
taking good care of your nails is mas importante.  The most important tools are cuticle oil and moisturizer (you could also sub in some olive or almond oil).  Remember, your hands are one of the places us ladies start to age first, so it's very important to keep them moisturized!

1. we love essie nail products (obviously) - their colors paint on thick, have an endless amount of colors to choose from, and they are sold at Target!
2. cuticle oil is a must - this helps those unruly hang-nails and keeps nails looking like you stepped out of the salon.
3. Sally Hansen nail pens are a great tool for nail designs.  They are about $8 a piece, and I have found that they last a while as well!
4. cuticle trimmers are also quite important - these help keep your cuticles nice and neat, and this only takes a few seconds to do!

Hair with Headbands

6am wake up calls on Wednesday are the worst. There is absolutely nothing this morning could do to make us break our phlegmatic smiles (unless, of course, it rained Jeffrey Campbell).

We probably haven't washed our hair since Monday night, and we are more than likely wearing yesterday's Maybeline Mascara.

..But headbands...headbands always save the day.

When in doubt (and out of dry shampoo), here are some easy ways to hide those Wednesday Worries.

The first place old hair starts to engulf are the roots. Throw on a thick headband, a la Bardot, to hide it! Don't want to back comb? No worries, grab a crumbled piece of Newspaper (or two).

1. Take the top section of hair you would like to exemplify and temporarily clip to the front of your hair so it is out of the way.
2. Put the paper balls underneath the sectioned hair (you can pin the paper balls in place if need be).
3. Take a small section of hair from the top clipped area and throw on top of paper. Pin that hair in place around the ball o'paper so they wont make a party appearance.
4. take the rest of the top sectioned hair and smooth over the paper balls.
5. Feel free to take the fabric from your headband and mix it in with a braid.

Often times, creating a loose braid (fishtail or traditional), causes a triumph of shorter layers to fall out of place, thus unveiling to be quite an un-cute do. Use a headband to pull back the stray-aways. It polishes up the look while keeping it out of your face (which is hopefully less awkward looking than mine is in this picture).

Why not use a flower to create some pretty power (cheesy rhyme, we know)? Just throw an elastic headband on top of your head and clip in a flower. We got this one at forever21 for under 5 bucks!

Need work appropriate hair in under 2 minutes? Try out this easy 'chiffon' do!

Check out this super dorky Tutorial on how to get this look.

No headbands? Well surely you have a necklace! Loop that loot over your head for a boho and classic look!

Corporate Hell-O-Ween

Much to our dismay (being corporate bottom dwellers), we spent our Halloween comfortably tucked away in our cubicles.

Perversely, that didn't keep us from spreading the mendacious joy of Hallow's Eve.

Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween!
